Added Cool Gear to the sponsor section and to the links page; they'll be providing us with a firewire hard drive.

Updated the links page.

Also put new GC logo on the intro page that doesn't say "Los Angeles to Las Vegas - March 13th, 2004".

I also came up with a solution for direct sun exposure to the cameras ; )

Today I made it so that when a route is loaded into the route editor it also downloads an aerial photo from terraserver.com and draws the route over it. Zooming and panning are also possible now. Here's a screen shot of the first 62 waypoints of the 2004 DARPA Grand Challenge:

For the last few days I've been working on the route editing software tool. Here's a picture of what it looks like after I load a route that would take EX around the road I live on:

Also, Chris went to EG Electronics (one of our sponsors) and picked up a brand new alternator.

I gave user the option of giving a neural network memory. The user can specify how much memory it has. This is important for detecting obstacle distance with only one camera. As a quick test I trained a neural network to output a 1 when I turned the lights on, but only for a few seconds. It would then output a 0 until I turned them on again.

I made a new software tool that makes it easier to create a waypoint-based route for EX. Besides letting you inport and export txt files, it draws a model of the route.

I just sent an email to the Grand Challenge staff with a couple suggestions. First, I said that I think the minimum lateral boundary offset should be about 25 ft, not 5 ft.

I also said that I think there shouldn't be numbers on the vehicles becuase it doesn't leave enough room for sponsor logos (especially on ours). I suggested colored flags or flags with numbers as a substitution.
